Today the UK celebrates Employability Day, a day for employers across the country to advocate their support for responsible employment.

At Bouygues Energies & Services, we make sure that we play an active role in the communities we operate in by working closely with our clients and local governments. We have always been committed to supporting local people to enter, sustain and progress in work, whether that be through apprenticeship schemes, recruiting within the Armed Forces population or partnering with charities.

As the UK enters the recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, our commitment to employability is perhaps now more important than ever. We recently signed the C-19 Business Pledge and Social Mobility Pledge, two national schemes encouraging organisations to join the battle against coronavirus and give their backing to employees, customers and communities.

Beyond the parameters of coronavirus, though, we continuously review how best to support our employees. Our commitment to personal development is testament to this, as we invest considerably in our Learning & Development strategy. We also have a very successful long-established Apprenticeship Scheme, which offers apprentices opportunities to challenge and develop themselves not only within their chosen discipline, but in other fields too. We encourage all members of staff to make use of the volunteering scheme where employees can positively contribute to our surrounding communities. Employees regularly undertake mock interviews in schools to prepare students for future employment.

We are also proud of our engagement with local charities to promote employment of vulnerable people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our ongoing work with Oxford-based charity Aspire and their campaign ‘No One Left Behind’ supports people affected by homelessness, poverty and disadvantage into employment and housing.
