Bouygues Energies & Services continue to accelerate towards a sustainable future

Bouygues Energies & Services have helped plant over 235 trees in Malawi with the help of Fruitful Office. Fruitful Office provide high-quality fresh mix of fruit delivered to offices like Bouygues Energies & Services every morning to help boost healthy eating and ensure employee wellbeing.

Last year, as their offices were closed, they donated their usually fruit baskets to hospitals in the UK, providing the NHS staff with a healthy treat. For every basket delivered to their office or hospitals, a tree is planted in Malawi to help reduce their carbon footprint.

Emma Jones, Bouygues Energies & Services Head of operational HR said, “it’s a great project that not only provides a healthy treat for our staff and the NHS staff but also helps to mitigate the effects of global warming, deforestation and provide income support to local communities in Malawi, Africa.”

The fruits are delivered in eco-baskets that are over 99% biodegradable or recyclable, approximately 60% of the fruit is sourced from UK and Western Europe to support local farmers and minimize fuel emissions from long-haul transportation.

“We have been working with Fruitful Office for the last 2 years and it’s an incredible initiative. Not only does it provide our employees with a healthy treat, but it also helps gives back to the environment. It’s incredible to think we have helped plant over 235 fruit trees” said James Timon, Bouygues Energies & Services Senior HCarbon footprintR Manager

Reducing their carbon footprint

Along with the Fruitful office scheme, the company has rolled out several other practices in their offices and on sites, all measures to reduce its carbon footprint.

“As a company, we know how important it is to reduce our carbon footprint, so we have also got a process in place where all the waste in our building is taken off-site for recycling, we only use recyclable milk bottles, we’ve upgraded our office lighting to more energy-efficient LED lights, and we recycle all our ink cartridges.” said Emma

Their commitment was apparent in a recent refurbishment project of their Manchester office where they recycled their old furniture, diverted away from landfill to reduce the impact on the environment. The recycled furniture equated to an incredible emission saving of over 9,000kg/CO2e. In the article, Emma expressed their goal to help reduce their environmental footprint stating.

"We want to reduce our carbon footprint and work towards a sustainable future. The waste in a landfill rots and decomposes to contribute to global warming, polluting our local environment, including water and soil. This is something small we can do to help reduce our environmental footprint.”

This ties in with their global goal to help provide a more sustainable approach to their business operation. Here are a few tips on how we can all do our part for a healthier planet: Ten things you can do to cut your carbon footprint.
