Bouygues Energies & Services awarded the design and build for new VIRTUS Data Centres’ LONDON8

Bouygues Energies & Services, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, has been selected by VIRTUS Data Centres (VIRTUS) for the turnkey delivery of its LONDON8 data centre, which will be the fourth facility on VIRTUS’ Stockley Park campus. The latest addition will make the campus park unique, as it will be the largest within the M25 and one of the most advanced data centre parks in the UK, providing 80MW of technical space.

Bouygues Energies & Services will be responsible for the design, build, electrical and mechanical services and commissioning of the data centre.

The TIER III data centre will be built with an overall floor area of 19,000m2 including 7,200m2 of technical IT data space. When fully deployed the facility will offer 18MW of critical IT load using state-of-the-art technologies to cater to high-density customer requirements. It will deploy a highly efficient flooded room principal for cooling, including chilled water and air hot-aisle containment at the rack level. This will significantly decrease energy and water consumption compared to the typical data centre performance characteristics.

The facility will consist of 8Nr self-contained data halls, all designed eco-efficiently and capable of subdivision for maximum flexibility from a rack in a shared space, to their suite or data hall, each with its dedicated power and innovative cooling systems.

Bouygues Energies & Services will bring an "Intelligent by design & build" approach to delivering the LONDON8 facility. It comprehends the combined services module for the M&E infrastructure with the independence to customise size and shape. Provides the secured backbone that is highly flexible and becomes the supper conduit of our data centres, seamlessly integrating with our modular building block approach. This approach allows us to deliver best in class quality, scalability and speed to market required in this state-of-the-art data centre and campus.

Chris Mosley, Operational Director, Bouygues Energies & Services Contracting, commented: “The team is excited to continue our collaboration with VIRTUS along with our dedicated supply chain. After over 3 years continuous presence on site, we now look forward to commencing the final piece of the Stockley Park Campus and reinforcing our presence in the Data Centre Sector.”

Simon Anderson, Construction Director, VIRTUS Data Centres said “We are pleased to be working with Bouygues Energies & Services again, this time on LONDON8 which is the final data centre of four on our Stockley Park Campus. As we are committed to a sustainable future and supporting Government zero carbon programmes, this data centre will include a number of important environmental features within the construction and has been designed to blend with the local canal with living-green walls. It will be the seventh data centre that Bouygues Energies & Services has been contracted to deliver for VIRTUS and is the result of ten years of successful delivery and collaboration between our two businesses.”

The data centre will be delivered on a phased basis with the first phase scheduled for completion and handover for Operational Readiness testing in March 2022. This approach allows VIRTUS’ customers to be involved in the design specification and scale up as they grow.

Steven Weir, CEO, Bouygues Energies & Services Contracting stated: “We are extremely proud to have been involved with VIRTUS from the start of their journey 10 years ago. It’s been an exciting process to watch the scale of their growth and the quality of the facilities that we have helped them to deliver over this last 10 years. We look forward to successfully completing this latest project and then continuing our partnership with further projects in the future.”

With LONDON8 data centre, Bouygues Energies & Services designed and built for VIRTUS all four data centre facilities within the hyperscale Stockley park campus. The hyperscale campus will offer in total 86MW of IT load over 37,000NTM.  Its size will significantly increase the reliability, availability and security of today’s data centres. Also, it will boost the demands of the dynamic data centre market.

In the era of cloud computing, Bouygues Energies & Services is well placed to meet the critical challenges of secure and reliable data storage while improving data centre energy performance.
