Supporting Digital Transformation for Improved Decision-Making and Building Performance Optimisation!

Digital transformation continues to be high on the built environment sector’s agenda as businesses are increasingly realising the benefits of digitalising their operations for improved productivity and systems for building performance optimisation.

At Bouygues Energies & Services (Bouygues E&S), we recognise the important role we play in supporting digital transformation when it comes to our own systems/digital infrastructure and those of our clients. In conjunction with this, knowledge sharing is a pertinent factor to inspire digital innovation and collaboration across the industry.

A great example of this is our recent participation at Digital Construction Week (DCW), a unique event dedicated to digital construction, engineering, design and manufacturing and operation. Not only is it a great opportunity for attendees and delegates to learn and network with an abundance of digital construction experts, but the event also provides a platform to help cultivate a more joined-up approach across the built environment through the sharing of insights and innovation.

That is why DCW remains an important date in Bouygues E&S’ calendar, and this year was no exception, with two company spokespeople, Jonathan Jones, Senior BIM Manager and Mohiadin Ahmed, Digital Change Manager, joining other key speakers on their chosen topics at the event.

As an expert in building systems and digital technologies, Jonathan was well placed to share his insights on Building Operating System BOS, a core software platform, also known as middleware, which acts as a link between a building’s internal equipment and external applications. The centralised platform provides operators with visibility of real-time functionality, which facilitates more informed and efficient decision-making, particularly in respect to improving building performance.

To create this versatile and dynamic solution, Bouygues E&S collaborated with Arup, a multinational design and engineering services firm, and Symbiosy, a smart workplace solutions provider. Through this collaborative work, we have been able to deliver this solution across a number of buildings, in different countries, with differing languages and systems providers.

Jonathan highlighted the benefits of this solution, including flexibility and a simple and unified user experience. He explains why DCW is a great forum to showcase solutions like this: “DCW allows us to be a part of important conversations on digital transformation, but fundamentally, is a great space to share with other collaborators and in turn, harness a joined-up, honest and open approach when working with industry professionals.”

Our second speaker, Mohiadin Ahmed, was invited by FlowForma, business process management, automation, workflow and digital transformation experts, to discuss the need for a step change in CX (Customer experience) and collaborative innovation as clients and contractors lean more towards technology solutions with low implementation risk and demonstrable impact. He highlighted specifically that platform technologies are enabling digital process automation and ‘live information’ to directly support the customer experience, innovation programmes and stakeholder engagement.

DCW is also a key indicator to understand how well the industry is responding to the digital transformation evolution as Mohiadin elaborates: “In addition to being a great opportunity to showcase how Bouygues E&S is helping drive digital transformation and innovation in the built environment, the event also demonstrated that the industry is making great strides forward in this respect. Reassuringly, there was a shared belief between fellow panellists that the future of our industry is one of collaboration, trust, openness and a willingness to change.”

Bouygues Energies & Services is committed to supporting its clients in their digital transformation journey to help meet their operational and sustainability priorities for improved business resilience.
