Enhancing HVAC Systems for Pharmaceutical Development: Project Update

We are thrilled to share the latest updates on our recent project, where we implemented significant enhancements to the existing AHU supply fan and extract fan to support the expansion of our client's operations.

To ensure the new design supply airflow was met, we increased the fan speed through the use of Variable Speed Drives (VSD). This meticulous adjustment allowed us to achieve the desired air flow by carefully balancing each area, including both the existing Mass Spec area and the new Mass Spec area. Additionally, we installed four DX cooling units to compensate for the reduced airflow in the existing Mass Spec area. These cooling units proved invaluable in maintaining optimal conditions for the expansion.

Similarly, the extract fan underwent a speed increase using VSD technology to meet the new design extract airflow requirements. Through a thorough balancing process, encompassing both the existing and new Mass Spec areas, we achieved optimal air flow distribution. Accurate readings of the main air volumes were obtained, and a comprehensive grille balance was carried out to further enhance the performance.

In our commitment to maintaining a controlled and clean environment, we strategically configured the labs to uphold a positive pressure regime from the lab areas to the corridors. This meticulous arrangement ensures compliance with the highest standards of pharmaceutical development, providing an ideal setting for our client's operations.

Furthermore, we successfully balanced the existing Low-Pressure Hot Water (LPHW) circuit to incorporate new heating coils serving the office and the newly expanded Mass Spec area. As the number of Mass Spec machines increases within the lab, the heating duty requirement gradually diminishes, until no additional heating is needed. This optimised heating system guarantees energy efficiency and comfort for the expanding facilities.

Ventilation commissioning was carried on the new mass spec lab without impacting the clients live operational adjacent mass spec facility. We take immense pride in being part of this transformative project that enables our client to meet the growing demands of pharmaceutical development.
