The Challenge

In 2008, Bouygues Energies & Services began a 25-year PFI contract with Waltham Forest Schools (WFS). We provide Total Facilities Management and lifecycle services to the Frederick Bremer School and Hard Facilities Management to the Queens Road School in Waltham Forest, North East London. Frederick Bremer is part of the ‘Building Schools of the Future’ programme for the London Borough of Waltham Forest that brought together Aveling Park School and Warwick Boys School. The School is built on the former Hawker Siddeley factory site, providing state of the art facilities for the pupils and community.

Our solution

Our contract with the client includes furniture, fixtures & equipment (FF&E), providing WFS with adequate resources for their staff and pupils.
We proposed the introduction and management of leasing the school during term time, at weekends, in the evenings, and outside of term time. This has been a huge benefit for WFS as it has provided additional budget for school resources.
We have helped WFS achieve their biodiversity targets by implementing various initiatives such as planting pollen and nectar plants that help biodiversity in the pond area of the playground, and providing 900 reusable water bottles for students to assist in our ‘reduce plastic’ initiative.

Our solution

We hold monthly meetings with the head teachers of each school and weekly meetings with the business managers on each site to ensure open and transparent communication between us and the client. This also means we are able to address any issues that may occur promptly. We have also introduced a pupil app to report requests to our helpdesk in real time.

We have various solutions in place to help the schools to be more energy efficient, including a programme of works to replace the lighting with LED energy- efficient panels and downlighters. At Forest Hill School we have replaced approximately 95% of the 300 fittings in corridors from normal 52W lamps to 22W LEDs.

At Greenvale School we have also replaced 95% of 150 fittings in corridors to LEDs.

We have installed reflective foil to some windows to keep the building cooler, and introduced a new replacement energy efficient chiller to one of the buildings.
