Supporting Personal Development

Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Yves Saint-Laurent have all had mentors to support them, and as a result they have gone on to achieve great stuff.

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” — Oprah Winfrey.

Bouygues Energies & Services believe in this philosophy and have programmes that allow their team to develop their skills beyond a textbook or a classroom. Dan Ansary is one of the individuals who have benefited from this.

Daniel joined the company in 2018 as a CAD Technician. After experiencing this discipline, he joined the electrical team as an Electrical Design Engineer. In his time with the company, he has worked on various data centre and life sciences projects simultaneously for both the CAD and the electrical teams.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bouygues Energies & Services. I joined the company as a CAD Technician. After three years, the company offered me the opportunity to move to the Electrical team. I studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering, so I welcomed this change as I wanted to follow a career as an electrical engineer.”

Working for two different teams, Daniel has been able to gain first-hand experience on the company culture. He explains:

Working with both teams, I have noticed there is a real togetherness within the teams but also interdepartmentally as well. From the moment I joined the CAD team, I formed a good relationship with my new colleagues, which I believe is vital for teamwork. Then when I joined the Design team, it was plain sailing as I had already formed relationships with my CAD team. Managers for both teams are extremely supportive and push you to be the best version of yourself. They support you to integrate into your new team. And, ensure you develop the skills and knowledge required to do the work to the highest quality, as expected at Bouygues Energies & Services.

Supportive Culture

There’s a stereotype that working for a global company, you’ll be left to fend for yourself, but at Bouygues Energies & Services, the culture is the opposite. Daniel explains:

“The company has a really good supportive culture where you have the opportunity to learn from the experience of your peers, get support from your team and even have the option to gain further qualifications.”

Daniel adds, “I’m fortunate to have a lot of experienced colleagues around me. I can go to them at any time, and they are more than happy to help me. As a team, we support each other.”

Bouygues Energies & Services believe in having a learning culture which is why they have a mentoring programme to help people develop their skills further and share knowledge, a programme that benefits both parties.

“My mentor, Tom Roberts, is one of the senior engineers in the team, and in my short time in the electrical team, I have gained a lot of knowledge working alongside him,” said Daniel.

Further qualifications
It’s good to get hands-on experience. However, gaining a formal qualification opens the door to diverse career opportunities. Bouygues Energies & Services have a learning and development programme that allows you to gain further qualifications. Daniel has recently taken his City and Guilds Design, Erection and Verification course. He explains:

“My manager and the company supported me in gaining further qualifications - I have already completed a training course on the new 18th Edition Amendment 2 2022 Wiring Regulations. In November I started a City and Guilds Design, Erection & Verification course. I also hope with the experience and knowledge I acquired; I will be able to apply for IEng very soon.”
