Celebrating our Talented Apprentices and Future Leaders!

Bouygues E&S recently held its first internal ‘Apprentice of the Year Awards’ which recognised winners across 8 categories, from outstanding academic achievement to emerging talent.

At Bouygues E&S, we recognise the importance of supporting the next generation of future leaders and the ceremony was a great success in identifying and encouraging young talent within our workforce.

Apprentices play a key role in Bouygues E&S. Their innovation, willingness to learn and hard work mean they are a valuable asset to the teams in which they work, while also assisting in upskilling our business and forming part of a robust succession plan. Dean Murphy, HSWQ Director, and Adrian Fortescue, Regional Director, were both in attendance at the Awards and, as former apprentices, are great examples of what our apprentices can achieve within Bouygues E&S.

Award Categories and winners:

  • Chris Cassar, Mechanical Maintenance Apprentice, won the coveted Apprentice of the Year Award. This year, this award was in memory of Mike Worrall, a dear friend, colleague, and champion of apprentices within the business.
  • Kai Philips, Mechanical Engineer Apprentice, took home the award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.
  • Mahaela Harrison, Mechanical & Electrical Apprentice now a qualified Day Electrician, was presented her Emerging Talent Award by our CEO, David Carr.
  • Jonathon Mercado-Brien, Building Service Engineer Apprentice, was recognised for his Outstanding Teamwork and Comradery.
  • Charlie Burlton, Mechanical ‘Craftsperson’ Apprentice now Service Manager, accepted his award for Going Above and Beyond from Eleanor Graham, Assurance & Compliance Director, and Neil Murphy, Coordinating Authorising Engineer
  • Zak Drake, Mechanical and Electrical Apprentice, won the Best Apprentice Performer at Work.

Apprentice Awards

Kai Phillips, Mechanical and Electrical Apprentice and winner of the Outstanding Academic Achievement award, commented: “The Apprenticeship Awards were phenomenal! It was extremely rewarding to know that senior level staff recognise the hard work apprentices put in on a day-to-day basis. When I received the email stating I had been nominated for an award I was over the moon. I was especially excited about visiting the Home Office, where the awards were held. One of the high points of the evening was getting to speak with the Directors and hearing how some of them began their journey as Apprentices at Bouygues E&S.”

Bill Kesby, Senior Operations Manager, said: “After 16 Years of delivering Mentorship to the Bouygues Apprenticeship Scheme, It was wonderful to be a Presenter and Recipient at the First Bouygues Apprenticeship Awards. Our apprentices, over a 4 Year Training Plan, have demonstrated that we are finally back filling into the workplace with the skills and knowledge that make our industry so great in the UK. Above all, I am so proud of the many Apprentices that I have had the privilege to help on their chosen careers and wish them every success in the next steps in their promising careers.”

Simon Hayman, Regional Director, said: “I'm very proud to see our long-desired wish of an annual apprentice award come to fruition. Bouygues E&S has been working on this event for a long time and all the efforts of the team showed. To recognise the good work of each apprentice was wonderful and will encourage others to take part in the future. Well done to all the participants."

A huge congratulations to all of our winners and those shortlisted, as well as a big thank you to Ian Price, Contract Manager, Michelle Ansah, Emerging Talent Adviser and Simon Hayman, Regional Director for their efforts in organising this event.
